On Saturday we were getting pretty close with the CTI motor, so we decided to revert back to the heavier transition with the rest of the lighter top section. Unfortunately yesterday when we were planning on launching at the Lynden field they were spreading manure, so we had to go way out to the foothills to the field next to Silver Lake today. We don't know exactly when or if we're going to be able to use the Lynden field Sukhraj found us again which sucks because it was pretty much perfect.
- Mostly average weather. Partly cloudy.
- 1-4mph winds when we got there. By the end it was very calm. The wind on the ground was blowing the opposite direction as the clouds were moving up in the sky as well.
- 49°F
- 63% relative humidity
- 29.3" baro (lowest yet for sure, maybe just because we're up a bit)
- Eggs: 57 & 60g
- CTI 50F51-6A
- 599g
- 7.ork
- Flight 2: After we stayed in the air too long the first flight, we added some tape on the top chute lines to hopefully reduce its effectiveness slightly.
Results:
- Flight 1: 791'!
- Flight 1: 46½ seconds
- 12-10.pf2
- Flight 2: 702'
- Flight 2: 39 seconds
- Unfortunately, it looked like the rocket wobbled quite a bit off the rail and didn't end up going up as straight as normal. We think this could have happened because the two sections weren't together totally straight at the transition but can't be sure.
- In PF DataCap, it looks like shortening the lines like that didn't make much of a difference.
- After taking off, one of the wire clips on the launch controller which had already been kind of bent earlier totally broke off, probably with the heat of the exhaust so it'll need to be replaced.
- 13-11.pf2
- The eggs always survived of course.
- The rocket was very loud with the mountains just echoing the sound around.
- The ejection charge did seem a little bit later than normal, but it was pretty consistent and doesn't seem to be a problem.
We had a great flight, we just need to slightly increase our descent rate and we'll be perfect. Daylight savings is also coming up so we won't have to worry about doing too many flight after school
